Twelve Dallas ISD students have been named among 16,000 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, with a chance to become one of the 7,500 Finalists who will take home scholarships worth a combined $32 million.
About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to reach the finals, with half of the Finalists winning a National Merit Scholarship.
School of Science and Engineering Semifinalists are:
- Matthew Callahan
- Yash Chandak
- Daschel Cooper
- Saumya Rawat
- Raviraj Rege
- Sasha Thomas
It is interesting to note that all the rest of the twelve DISD semifinalists go to school at Townview - 1 from Law, and 5 from TAG.
About 1.6 million high school juniors from more than 22,000 high schools applied to become Semifinalists by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. To become Finalists, each Semifinalist’s high school must submit a detailed scholarship application that provides information about academic records, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
Good luck SEM Semifinalists!!!
