SEM students shine in UIL Championship swimming season!

Claire Agee and Callahan Stuart, both Juniors at SEM, splashed and dashed their way to victorious seasons at the UIL District 14 and Region 4-5A Swimming Championships! Claire swims for her home high school Woodrow Wilson and Callahan swims for Bryan Adams.

At the District meet, both Claire and Callahan made the awards podium in all their events and relays. Claire placed 3rd in the both the 50 and 100 freestyle, and sprinted her way to victory as part of Woodrow’s 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Callahan placed 2nd in the 100 backstroke, and showed amazing versatility in all 4 strokes, earning 3rd in the 200 Individual Medley. Our SEM swimmers earned major points for their respective teams. Woodrow girls and Bryan Adams boys teams won at Districts! Both swimmers advanced to Regionals by finishing in the top 6, as well as earning Varsity athletic letters in swimming.

At the Regional meet, Claire won 1st place in the 200 freestyle relay, 2nd in the 400 freestyle relay, and 7th place in the 50 freestyle. Callahan placed 4th in the 400 freestyle relay, 12th in the 100 backstroke and 13th in the 200 individual medley. With these contributions to their home schools, both Woodrow girls and Bryan Adams boys teams both finished 2nd place out of 30 teams at the UIL Regional 4-5A swimming championships.

Swimmers and relays must finish in the top 2 to earn automatic berths to the UIL State 5A Swimming Championships. Claire will again represent Woodrow Wilson girls with 2 automatic qualifying relay events. Congratulations to Callahan and Claire! We wish Claire all the best for the State meet held in Austin, Texas on February 16-17, 2018!
