Oct. 17, 2014 HNTB Receives Employers for Education Excellence (EEE) Gold Award - nominated by SEM! HNTB Corporation - Dallas HNTB is a nationally recognized engineering, architectural and planning firm with offices nationwide.  Of the 107 employees within the Dallas/Plano office, 13 employees volunteer with the Yvonne A. The program is designed to provide students with a hands-on approach and a basic understanding of engineering design, project development, project management and more. Summer: David Carris
BY: David Carris on September 22, 2014

We've asked students to tell us what they did this summer.  The following comes from David Carris...   I was lucky to do some great stuff this summer.  I was selected to attend the U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar in Annapolis, Maryland. NASS is a fast-paced, six-day experience that teaches you about life at the Naval Academy. It is amazing. If you ever have an opportunity to visit the Naval Academy, don't miss it. In June, I went to the Texas A&M National Scholars Invitational.     For 4 weeks I volunteered at Vickery Meadow Summer Reading Academy (VMSRA) which works with grade school ESL students at Jack Lowe Elementary School in Dallas on reading and writing during the summer.  In July, I attended The Texas High School Aerospace Program, HAS. HAS had a long application process that required writing essays, and you have to complete eight modules on the computer in six months - science, technology, engineering and math - with a focus on NASA. It was worth it- as I got to enjoy a week long internship at the Johnson Space Center!    Thank you David for sharing your summer experiences.  If you'd like to do some of what David's done... ...

#7 in Nation | #4 in South
BY: Tiffany Huitt on August 31, 2014

Hello All,I have attached our Newsweek rankings. We expected a small drop in the rankings based on the recalculation of the formula. As the rankings for Newsweek are no longer as heavily based on the number of AP exams taken. As noted during our data discussions, we have a lot of work to do with our SAT and ACT scores. We know that we are definitely headed in the right direction based on our 2014 improved results.I would like to thank you and commend you all for the work that you do. I am proud to be a part of this community of parents, students and professionals. At SEM we have developed a culture of love and support while developing tomorrow's future leaders. Maybe they do something similar in other places but I'm willing to bet anyone, they can't replicate what we have here. Why?..... because they don't have our teachers, par...
