25th - Senior Dinner (Hard Rock Cafe @ 2211 N. Houston Street - Time TBA, Cost included in Graduation)
29th - Graduation Rehearsal - 10 am at Majestic Theatre (be to school by 9 am for bus!)
29th - Graduation - 7 pm at Majestic Theatre ($60 includes Senior Dinner)

Senior Fees, in the amount of $60 (for both Senior Dinner & Graduation) are due on or by Friday, May 4th. The Senior Dinner will be held at the Hard Rock Cafe, in the West End, on Friday, May 25th.

Transportation Form

Any senior who plans to go on a school-authorized field trip or activity where they leave the school, must bring this form to the teacher in charge of the activity. You must fill out the form completely and have your parent sign the form before returning it. The form is below in both Word and PDF format. No student will be allowed to participate in any such activity without the form.

Seniors - this is particularly important if you wish to attend the Senior Picnic, Graduation Rehearsal, etc.

The Senior Picnic is on May 18th at the Reunion Ranch in Terrell, TX:

Northpark Center Code Of Conduct Information 5-17-12

NorthPark Center is pleased to implement new and updated common sense policies to ensure a safe and enjoyable shopping and dining experience for its guests, and we would greatly appreciate your assistance in communicating this news with your students and their families as they prepare for their summer break.

The complete NorthPark Center Code of Conduct, as outlined in the attached document, can be found on www.northparkcenter.com (at the bottom of home page in tiny red letters) and on shopping center directories and signs. The Code of Conduct sets specific expectations and behavioral guidelines, reinforces what is appropriate attire for a family-friendly shopping center and provides new standards for accompanying underage individuals.

Under the new policy, parents or legal guardians must accompany persons 17 years of age and under each evening beginning at 6 pm. Any unaccompanied person 17 years of age and under will be asked to produce an acceptable form of valid identification as specified in the Code of Conduct. Underage individuals, or those who are unable to provide required identification, will be asked to contact their parents or legal guardians to join them or arrange to be picked up from the shopping center.

Such policies are part of a continuing national trend of shopping centers across the country and are likely similar to those common sense and courtesy rules currently in place for your own students, school and facilities.

DISD Transportation Release Form (Field Trip Form) 2012

If your child is going on a school-authorized field trip or activity where they leave the school, this form must be filled out, signed and returned to the teacher in charge of that activity. No student will be allowed to participate in any such activity without the form.

We are posting the transportation form for download from the SEM Website at this time in particular so that Seniors who will be attending the Senior Picnic, Graduation Rehearsal, etc. will be able to have immediate access to it.

Friday May 4 - Wear College T-shirt Day

Schools, local elected officials, businesses and others across Texas are invited to
show their support for the students of Generation TX by doing one simple thing:
wearing their favorite college t-shirt on GenTX Day (Friday, May 4th).

Last year, Texas celebrated its first ever GenTX Day with NFL quarterback Vince Young
as its spokesperson and support from Governor Perry, local mayors and other community
leaders. Official business sponsor H-E-B led the way with its 76,000 employees wearing
college t-shirts in recognition of GenTX Day. To see a video documenting last year’s

Our goal is to get everyone in the state of Texas wearing a college T-shirt on GenTX
Day. Imagine the powerful message we send to students by immersing them for a day in
a state filled with college t-shirts everywhere they turn. Just by wearing a college t-shirt,
each person who participates invites a conversation about their personal story and how
their choices and education have shaped their lives and careers. Each of these
conversations could change a student’s life and inspire them to stay on the path to higher
education.

WHY: In 2000, Texas set a goal of increasing the number of students participating in higher
education by 630,000 students by 2015. Currently, only 56% of Texas high school
graduates enrolled in higher education in 2010. This remains well below the
national average of 70%. Research shows that First Generation students (students
whose parents did not attend college) are less likely to enroll in higher education, and
that these conversations can be particularly critical in showing them that college is a
possibility for them.

FREE Summer 2012 ACT Prep Sessions - June 4 - 8 (deadline: May 18)

This is a GREAT opportunity for DISD students who need ACT test preparation! It is called the Superintendent's Scholars ACT Summer Boot Camp and is available (on a limited enrollment basis) to all DISD students who want to prepare for the ACT test given on June 9.

Students will be notified of acceptance by May 21st.

Senior Clearance Procedures Notice 2011-12

All Seniors must fulfill a set of end-of-school procedures in order to graduate. Mrs. Wells must sign your test exemption and clearance forms, which will be given to you very soon.

Clearance procedures include getting teachers signatures that you are cleared to graduate, that you have no library books overdue, etc. Don’t wait until the last minute!!

To see LAST YEAR'S procedures packet, look at the pdf below. This year's packet will be given directly to the Seniors and will be very similar to last year's.

Engineering Innovation Camps - Application deadline: May 14, 2012

The Lyle School of Engineering will host the SMU Lyle Engineering Innovation Camps which will provide a creative environment for students to learn and apply knowledge. The Lyle School uses this effective method of teaching to educate its current 1,000 undergraduate engineering students.

The camp is designed to give students who are interested in pursuing educational opportunities and careers in STEM fields an opportunity to live on campus in residence halls, be mentored by representatives from the SMU faculty, participate in panel and group discussions with industry partners while working on a real world, hands-on design innovation project.

Due to the generosity of a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, SMU Lyle Engineering is pleased to offer the camps free of charge to a select group of eligible students. Without this generous support, each student would be required to remit a fee of $1,030. Only 40 scholarships for high school female rising juniors and seniors and 20 scholarships for high school male rising juniors and seniors are available on a competitive basis.

Rising female juniors will attend camp from June 11 to 13. Rising female seniors will attend camp from June 14 to 16 (Saturday included). Rising male juniors and seniors will attend camp from June 18 to 20. Attendance all three days and two evenings of the camp experience are mandatory – no exceptions.
